Allowing the adding of Task Info into the Visual Maps is the key to extending MindVisualizer into a
visual task management and visual project management software. With this feature each topic
represents a task. The unique advantage of using a Visual Map to manage tasks is that you can
see the big picture of all your tasks.
Note: The Standard edition of MindVisualizer only provides basic visual task management
features. The Professional Edition (Code name: ProjectVisualizer) extends the Task/Project
Planning/Management abilities to a high level, by offering powerful filtering, Gantt chart, calendar
and reports feature.
Tips: Select a single topic first before you start.
· Opening the Task Info pane. You edit Task Info for a topic through the Task Info Pane,
therefore you need to open it first. Do any of the following:
· Select menu Topic > Toggle Task Info Pane.
· Right click on any topic and select Toggle Task Info Pane from the context menu.
· Press <F9>
· Editing Task Info.
· Setting task status. Task status in MindVisualizer is similar to the corresponding
concepts in the GTD (Getting Things Done) approach, and they are represented by icons
in the Visual Map. By default a topic is not a task, so your first step is to change the task
status of the topic from "None Task" to any of the following:
· Planning
- meaning the task has been planned but not started yet.
· Next
Action - meaning the task will be started next.
· In
Progress - meaning the task is working in progress.
· Waiting
On - meaning the task is awaiting someone else's reply in order to carry
on.
· Deferred
- meaning the task is deferred.
· Completed
- meaning the task is completed already. The icon is not shown in the
Visual Map in this status.
· Setting task priority. The default priority is "Normal"
and you can change it to any of
the following:
· High
· Very
High
· Low
· Very
Low
Tips: When the priority is Normal or the task status is Completed, the icon will not be showing in the map.
· Setting planned start date. the planned start date means what time the task is planned
to start. You can set the start date with a standard Windows date time picker control.
· Setting planned due date. The planned due date means by what time the task has to be
completed, in other words, it's the planned deadline of the task. You can set the start
date with a standard Windows date time picker control.
· Setting planned duration. The duration of a task means how long the task will last in
hour, days, weeks or months.
· Setting progress. Whenever a task progressed, update the task through the Task Info
Pane, task progress ranges from 0% to 100%.
· Setting context. This is a GTD (Getting Things Done) concept, means in what context
the task should be executed, e.g. at home, at office, and so on.
· Show or hide Task Info in the map. By default the Task Info is shown for each task. You
can disable it by unchecking the Show Task Info In Map checkbox found on the top of the
Task Info Pane.
· Removing Task Info. To remove Task Info from a topic, set the Task Status
to "None Task"
to "None Task"
· End.
